Medical Oncology
Medical oncology involves the detection and treatment of tumors. And the medical oncologists at Beaumont Hospitals are not only some of the most highly skilled in the nation, they also have access to some of the most advanced technology and treatment options.
Oncologists at Beaumont are dedicated to evolving the science of cancer care. These specialists work with the rest of the Oncology department team to go beyond the standard of care as they compassionately assist you in your battle with cancer.
The Beaumont Hospitals' Medical Oncology department includes
- A staff of 28 board-certified medical and hematological oncologists
- A new 39-bed patient-focused inpatient unit in Royal Oak
- A new 22-bed unit in Troy
- An outpatient infusion center
- Outpatient clinics offering treatment and consultation services
- Graduate medical education fellowship program
- Community outreach programs for cancer prevention and support
Our department also participates with the Cancer Clinical Trials Office (CCTO) with more than 100 active research protocols. Current research protocols study investigational treatments, medications and therapeutic techniques. In fact, our research trials are so well respected, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has designated Beaumont as a Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). This achievement entitles us to NCI support for Beaumont's research program.
The highly trained oncology nurses at Beaumont average 12 years of experience; the majority possess OCN certification.
At the Troy campus, the medical oncology department has established an active cancer program. This includes the Wilson Cancer Resource Center for patient education and support, a Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program, a Multidisciplinary Inpatient and Outpatient Lung Cancer Clinic, and several tumor boards.
Beaumont's medical oncologists are also active in southeastern Michigan communities. We stress patient and community education, while offering support and outreach programs to our area. Our team also sponsors cancer awareness programs for local schools, community groups and Beaumont employees.
